I realized after taking your course that other classes I had taken before had made it more complicated than it needs to be. One of those classes in particular made it so bad that I didn't even want to speak after it.

It was a university-level professional presentation course and that guy was so nitpicky it messed up my whole confidence. All these rules and writing structure created inhibitions, and I had to memorize the whole thing on top of that.

It was all so academic. And there's a big difference between academic style speaking and persuasive speaking.

Like the first day of the class, he had us do this exercise where it was like:

‘’Go talk to the guy next to you. Find out all you can about them. And the next three minutes, stand up together and give a speech about each other.’’

I got up swimmingly. I was so happy. I talked animatedly. Everybody was laughing, they were all excited. The other guy did the same thing.

And as the course went on... I got less and less confident, to the point where my marks actually went down.

And by the end of the course I was blinking, I was pausing, I was stuttering. All of the things that I had struggled with before came back.

I was actually more fearful of public speaking after the class than before. Too much structure, correction at every turn. It just made me more self-conscious.

Their rigid systems had me paralyzed by perfectionism. This was definitely not for rule-breakers and entrepreneurs like us. We are leaders really.

Then, I took an online masterclass that had nothing to do with public speaking but the teachers had Rockstar personalities and they both said: ‘’Keep it simple. Just know your points. If you know what you're talking about, you're going to be okay.’’

So that’s what gave me the courage to even take a public speaking course again.

If it wasn’t for that, I probably wouldn't even have registered when I got your email about the class because I was so scared.

It was very expansive. It felt a lot more natural. And I loved that.
